Sophie Roberts: Painting a Garden

We are delighted to be presenting Sophie Roberts' first solo exhibition at The Garden Rooms.

Sophie Roberts is an artist based in North Yorkshire, painting from her home at the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park and much of her work includes the beautiful plants and flowers found there.

Sophie's inspiration can be traced back to her love of botanical painting alongside the colours and patterns found in home interiors, all of which feature in her joyful paintings. This exhibition includes a progression of paintings from this year, with vibrant still lifes combining bright colours with bold patterns for which Sophie is well known, to more detailed botanical studies of the magnolias and foxgloves from the garden where she lives. Through her art Sophie combines classical botanical painting with more free flowing illustrative lines.

She says, "I take constant inspiration from the stunning plants around me, from the rare species of hellebores and magnolias in the garden, to foxgloves and grasses in the surrounding area. Nature is constantly offering up its next subject for me to paint."

Meet the Artist

Sophie will be painting live in the Gallery, and talking to visitors about her exuberant and colourful floral paintings. This is a free event, with no need to register.
