‘Original’ and ‘highly lyrical’ - Edinburgh born pianist and composer Ben Shankland’s trio is an exciting arrival on the UK jazz scene. Their sound is
fresh and distinctive, their repertoire constantly developing. With BBC
Young Jazz Musician of 2022 Ewan Hastie, himself an accomplished
and original composer, and brilliant young drummer Chun-Wei Kang,
Ben mingles his own highly original compositions with classics, the
serene with a high-octane energy. Elements of 50s hard bop, 70s ECM
and more contemporary rhythmic and conceptual ideas, Shankland’s music will appeal to jazz fans of any age.
