Vive ‘les Olympiques’! - Concert by the Richmondshire Orchestra

Presentation1 (12)

Sunday 14th July, 3pm

Richmondshire Orchestra will be under starter’s orders for a special ‘Olympics 2024’-themed concert, featuring music by composers from countries ranking top in the 1924 Paris Olympics medal table.

Representing France on what will be ‘Bastille Day’ we have Offenbach’s Overture to ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’, with its quintessential Can Can; from the USA, Gershwin’s ‘American in Paris’ and from Italy, Rossini’s ‘William Tell’ Overture.

Meanwhile, what concert dedicated to the Olympic Games would be complete without the iconic theme to Vangelis’ British film ‘Chariots of Fire’?

Järnefelt, Praeludium

Arnold, English Dances

Vangelis arr Pasatieri, Theme from 'Chariots of Fire'

Sibelius, Karelia Suite
