The Cafe is open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, and Saturdays 9am-5pm (8am when there is an auction taking place that day), and closed Sundays.
All works of art in the Cafe can be purchased from Reception.
Art in the Café: Designer Makers Market

We are delighted to be welcoming Harriet Morley, Matt Scott & Helen Callear to display their Art in the Café as part of the Designer Makers Market
The Designer Makers Market was established in 2013 by textile artist Kathryn Guy.
The emphasis at these events is on original and contemporary work, with a strong 'up-cycled' theme. Giving the opportunity to meet the designer makers in person and buy unique handcrafted goods of gallery quality.
The annual Leyburn event has been hosted here at The Garden Rooms since 2016. This year in the run up to the popular two day event, three of the artists taking part are displaying a variety of work here in the café – a very small ‘taster’ of what to expect if you visit the event.
HARRIET MORLEY
BA (Hons) Textile Design
Harriet’s unique felt artworks capture her love for the countryside, in particular the Yorkshire Dales. Her work is inspired by her rural childhood, which she spent exploring her local landscape, always fascinated by nature.
Her felt artworks are made from 100% sustainable wool and use a combination of traditional techniques; wet felting to make her “canvas” base, followed by intricate needle felting to add depth and character with finer details.
Harriet likens this creative process to painting with wool. She blends colours and textures together to breathe life into the countryside and its wildlife, depicting nature in all its glory.
Harriet’s artwork has been displayed in numerous galleries and, whilst developing her own collections, she is also available to work on commission pieces and runs Felting workshops.

MATT SCOTT
Matt is a landscape artist based in Barnard Castle, Durham. His inspiration comes from hiking with his beagle, Charlie, across the varied landscapes of Northern England. He works in both oil and watercolour, finding the different approaches and techniques of the two media give an interesting contrast. He uses an expressive style to emphasise changes in light and weather and is particularly interested in the changes of colour and atmosphere seen in nature from season to season.
Matt will be exhibiting in the Designer Makers Market, at The Garden Rooms on 16th & 17th October.
HELEN CALLEAR
Helen is from Masham on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. She is a printmaker and artist. Her landscapes are mainly mixed media works or monoprints. She is inspired by the stark contrast and balance seen in nature, the Yorkshire weather, the seasons and the wheel of the year. Often working in alternative colour palettes, she is interested in the interplay between distance and foreground detail.
Helen will be exhibiting in the Designer Makers Market, at The Garden Rooms on 16th & 17th October.
