Exhibition: An A-Z of Art & Antiques

22 July – 30 August 2026
Did you know that broccoli inspired some of our British masterpieces, or that tree rings can help date works of art? Have you ever wondered why the Virgin Mary is so often painted in blue, or how to spot a first edition Harry Potter?
This summer, discover the fascinating stories hidden within art and antiques at a new exhibition at Tennants Auctioneers, Leyburn. An A–Z of Art & Antiques offers an entertaining and accessible introduction to the extraordinary world of cultural objects — perfect for both the curious newcomer and seasoned enthusiast alike.
From an Arts and Crafts table inspired by the humble hay rake to vampire-slaying kits, and from graveyard guns to the remarkable story of Zarafa the Giraffe, the exhibition reveals the surprising histories and inspirations behind the objects around us, told through images and objects.
Designed to be engaging, informative, and easy to explore, The A–Z of Art & Antiques invites visitors to look a little closer at the stories objects can tell.
The exhibition is free to enter and open daily, 8.30am–5pm.
